A SHOCKING theft has occurred at Mukuru in Rusape, where an employee Jasper Pondo (31) allegedly stole US$23 393 and R9 500 from the safe before fleeing.

Police have launched a manhunt for him.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said Pondo stole the cash after Fawcett Security Company delivered it to the booth in March 2025.

The theft was discovered when Eunia Masanhi (40), from N. Richards, who noticed Pondo referring customers to other Mukuru booths, resulting in low sales at the branch.

Masanhi informed Christopher Govanai, a retailer supervisor at Mukuru, who then tasked Rusape Fawcett Company security to investigate the matter on March 25, 2025.

During investigation, Pondo was found at work, but disappeared after pretending to answer a call.
When Fawcett security opened the safe, they found the cash missing.

A report was then made at ZRP Rusape Central, but no arrest or recoveries have been made yet.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka appealed to the public to assist in locating Pondo, urging anyone with information to come forward and help.
