TWO employees of Taxi Boss, a commuter omnibus company, have been convicted and fined for bribery after offering money to police officers at a roadblock in Mutare.
Emmanuel Pemba (47), the driver, and Josphat Taizivei Tavashe (38), the conductor, were arrested on 11 December 2024 near Mutare Teachers’ College.
“Pemba, driving a commuter omnibus, and Tavashe, the conductor, were stopped by a ZRP officer, Peace Runyararo Muchenje. Tavashe handed Muchenje US$3 as a bribe to avoid being cited for traffic violations in respect of the vehicle,” said the National Prosecuting Authority in a statement on X.
The bribe was witnessed by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) officers, leading to the arrest of both men.
They were subsequently charged under Section 170(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
The suspects were fined US$120 each for their unlawful actions.
