TWO young beauties from Manicaland aged eight and 10 will represent the province at the prestigious Little Mr and Miss Africa Zimbabwe pageant in Harare, tomorrow.

Alexis Makatendeka Beni (eight), a learner at Cross Kopje Junior School, and Joylene Mazemo (10), from Manicaland Christian College, successfully navigated the audition process held on March 8 at a local hotel to secure their spots.

According to the organisers’ website, the Little Mr and Miss Africa Zimbabwe pageant is a vibrant celebration of Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.

The event showcases the unique traditions, costumes, and talents of young contestants from various cultural backgrounds.

As the spotlight shines on Alexis and Joylene, the people of Manicaland are called upon to rally behind the talented duo, proud of their roots and excited for their future.

For the two young ambassadors, the momentous occasion is, not just a pageant — it is a celebration of their heritage and declaration of their aspirations.

Tinashe Mukonowatsauka, who is the beauties’ manager, expressed confidence that the two will raise the Manicaland province flag high.

“I have been incredibly impressed with the dedication and growth of both models. They have shown remarkable confidence on stage, and each has a unique presence that captivates the audience. I believe they both have the potential to win and go far in this competition. Representing our province is more than just a competition but a chance to showcase the heart and soul of our community. We are a place where dreams take flight, and where passion meets opportunity,” he said.

Alexis’ mother, Sonia, believes the kids have all what it takes — potential, verve, confidence and character to make history.

“I am honoured to be a part of something bigger than myself, and I hope to inspire others to chase their own dreams, right here in our incredible province. Given their incredible performance in training, they will produce good results. As a parent, I am so proud of the girls, and hope that they bring the crown home,” she said.

The winners will represent Zimbabwe at Little Mr and Miss Africa 2026 in a country to be advised.

This year’s event will be held under theme: “Celebrating cultural diversity”.

The pageant opened its doors in 2023.

For now, though, all eyes will turn to Harare, where heritage meets hope, and where two young girls from Manicaland will step onto the stage, not just as contestants, but as radiant symbols of pride, potential, and possibility.

With every step they take and smile they share, they carry the spirit of a province known for its resilience, grace, and deep-rooted cultural heritage.

They represent, not only themselves, but every young child who dares to dream big in small towns and every voice that longs to be heard on a bigger stage.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe regional manageress, Carol Makoni believes the journey may just be beginning, but for Alexis and Joylene, the future already sparkles with possibility.

“We believe they will raise the province’s flag high. Whether they return with crowns or not, they have already won the hearts of their province and set an inspiring example of courage, ambition, and cultural pride. In their eyes gleams a promise, a promise that the dreams of Manicaland’s children are bright, bold, and boundless. We are proud to be sending the two intelligent pupils to represent us and we wish them the best,” she said.
