Mutasa says football runs in the family

LLOYD Mutasa says football runs in his family.

He has guided Green Fuel into a position where they are now favourites to win promotion into the domestic Premiership.

He told H-Metro he feels honoured to be the main referral point in a family which has produced many footballers.

Mutasa says his grandfather was the pioneer of their football dynasty.

“I feel honoured being part of a great football family but, unlike what many think, it’s not a case of Lloyd being the pioneer.

“My grandfather Kennias was a footballer.

“He played area zone football and my father Phanuel played for Modern Stars in Chitungwiza in Division Two.

“I had two elder brothers.

“My first elder brother, Gift Mutasa, played for Cone Textiles and went as far as Division One and, when he was wanted by CAPS, he was blocked and he went boozy and it became the end of his football career.”

He added:

“The other one never played top football but he played area zone and I had my young brother Wilson, who turned out for Jumbo, Shamva Mine, Buffaloes, and Rhinos.

“He is one of the few brothers who played in the Premier League for the family.

“I played for Tanganda and Dynamos.

“I am the biggest inspiration to the younger generation that is coming up as I am well decorated.”

His two sons, Panashe and Wisdom, have also taken the same route.

Wisdom is playing for Costa Do Sol in Mozambique and Panashe is turning out for Tenax.

“I still remember one of my children was born when I was playing for Dynamos,” he said.

“The day he was born we were winning in Algeria in 1995.

“I would carry the kid from Glen Norah to Portland Cement. That was his passion and desire to be closer to his dad and ended up taking dad’s spot.

“So is Panashe, these youngsters are following the footsteps and they are saying they can do better than me.”
