THEATRE artistes have been challenged to create compelling content that accurately presents local experiences while also telling unique stories.
Speaking on the sidelines of a theatre arts symposium held in Mutare recently, renowned playwright Daves Guzha said performing artistes’ works should be creative in reflecting communities’ realities.
“The content we are currently serving as creatives is one of the primary issues we need to fix. We need to develop content and performances that are relevant and resonate well with our audience so as to tell their story and reflect on their experiences.
“There is a danger of being insular when we do performances to enjoy ourselves instead of doing it so that it speaks to the audience because as artists we pride ourselves in being the mirror of society that reproduces reality,” said Guzha.
The theatre guru added that through creativity, innovation and originality, artistes can reap huge benefits from the industry as entrepreneurs.
Guzha said they are working on nurturing and promoting young talent.
