THE ongoing second phase of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP2), which has seen Government modernising road infrastructure, has benefited Chimanimani farmers as a direct link between farms and markets for the transportation of fresh farm produce has been re-established.
Several roads in the district have been reconstructed after they were damaged by the devastating Cyclone Idai in 2019 and the subsequent improvement in transport network has helped local farmers go about their agro business in an efficient way.
A farmers’ coordinator in Chimanimani, Mr Shingirirai Mafake, said roads rehabilitation has resulted in better service delivery and distribution of goods.
“We thank the Government for their programmes on reconstructing the damaged roads. This has made famers’ lives and work easier during transportation of inputs as well as the produce from the farms to the markets.
“The improved road infrastructure has significantly cut on the transport costs we would have otherwise incurred had the situation remained bad,” he said.
Mr Mafake added that transportation of fruits and vegetables between the neighbouring Chimanimani and Chipinge Districts as well as bigger markets in Mutare has become easier and quicker.
