ENVIRONMENT, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu has conferred a German couple – Dr Reignold Hemker and his wife Reverend Kerstin Hemker – as Zimbabwe’s tourism ambassadors.
It is believed the couple has done remarkably well in disseminating information about the country’s beauty.
“On behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe, I would like to say we truly appreciate the work that you do and we hope that you continue doing this … you can now work with ZTA (Zimbabwe Tourism Authority) in all your packages; they will be able to link you up with our tour operators,” said Minister Ndlovu while conferring the ambassadorial role on the couple.
“We believe that this can only grow our tourism. There is so much potential, and it is through dedicated people like you that our tourism can fly.”
Tourism is considered a low-hanging fruit for the country in terms of foreign currency generation and employment creation.
German is presently the second-largest source country for tourists to Zimbabwe from Europe after the United Kingdom.
Added Minister Ndlovu:
“This couple has told the Zimbabwean story perhaps better than anyone here present. They have been able to bring a lot of tourists into this country, especially from German-speaking countries.
“What more can we ask. You have been of great service to our country, and you have not at any time expected anything in return.”
