HARARE Metropolitan Province has launched an investigation into the allocation of residential stands in Glen Norah, amid revelations that some houses are being built on tarred roads.

Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Mr Tafadzwa Muguti, has instructed the Provincial Planning office to look into the issue.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) will be roped in if irregularities are unearthed.

Said Harare Metropolitan Province on its Twitter page on Thursday:

“Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution has instructed the Provincial Planning office to look in the Glen Norah stands allocated on the roads, amongst many other stands issued on road servitudes. Any shortcomings will be reported to ZACC.

“The provincial planner will look into the original plans for the city, change of use authorisation, community engagements and approvals for the existing structures being built.”

The Harare City Council (HCC) recently came under fire for approving the construction of houses on tarred roads in the high-density residential suburb of Glen Norah.

In its defence, HCC claimed that the tarred roads are illegal.
