Beneficiaries of the land reform programme should take a leaf from progressive joint venture partnerships such as the one between Mr Godfrey Nkunzani and Mr Allan York, which has started to positively contribute to national food security by increasing productivity through conservation agriculture,  Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Vangelis Haritatos has said.

The duo are members of the Coalition of Agricultural Graduates of Zimbabwe (CAGOZ), which provides land reform beneficiaries with management and technical assistance.

“You have shelved your different background footing and united to unleash what you were taught by CAGOZ to bring about prompt results, contributing to national food security,” said Deputy Minister Haritatos.

He was speaking at a National Agricultural Commercialisation Field Day hosted by CAGOZ at Nkunzani Farm in Mazowe District, Mashonaland Central, on Thursday.

“Linking agricultural educational theory, practical aspect, productivity and food security have been subjects of studious academic and practical enquiry. What is undeniable is that this project is a clear testimony of dedication to results.”

Nkunzani Farm has employed conservation agriculture to maximise production through optimising management to achieve Government’s goal of climate-proofing agriculture.

The farm currently produces an average of 12 tonnes of maize per hectare on dry land, an average of 3,4 tonnes of soyabeans per hectare, 67 tonnes of potatoes per hectare under drip irrigation, and vegetables.
