ZAMBIAN boxing promoter Chris Malunga believes Charles Manyuchi has made the right choice to retire from the sport.
Malunga was instrumental in Charles Manyuchi’s rise to stardom.
He, however, feels the 33-year-old Bulawayo-born boxer still has more to offer to the sport.
Manyuchi will retire on May 27 soon after his title defence against Sheriff Kasongo of Congo.
He made the announcement at a press conference in Harare on Thursday.
In a message sent from his base in Zambia, Malunga, who managed the pugilist when he was still under Oriental Quarries, urged Manyuchi to help in producing more champions.
It was while under his tutelage that Manyuchi rose to become the World Boxing Council Silver welterweight champion.
He lost the title in 2017, before recovering through the World Boxing Federation (WBF) route, where he now holds the world middleweight belt.
“First of all, I would like to say Charles you have made the right decision at the right time,” said Malunga.
“Charles, you have ended your journey in terms of professional boxing, but you are still in boxing. Why? Because boxing still needs you to start imparting that knowledge you learned in the professional and the amateur tournaments to the upcoming boxers. I feel that they can learn a lot from you.”
Manyuchi will defend his WBF and World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) titles for the last time on May 27.
Soon after, he will hang up his gloves.
“It was a memorable journey, but I will talk much after the fight in May,” Manyuchi said.
