JUST weeks after the gospel world mourned the loss of Pastor Barak, a fresh voice is rising from the ashes of grief to carry the spiritual torch. Meet Min Rodeck, born Rodeck Lynnos Ncube, who has officially entered the gospel music scene with his powerful debut single Siyabonga.
The 23-year-old singer, born at St Luke’s Hospital in Lupane and raised in Pumula North, says his journey from bottle-cap soccer to the recording booth is proof of divine grace.
“We had quite a beautiful childhood,” he recalled, reminiscing about games with the boys and days filled with laughter and music scribbled on scrap paper. “Back then, I didn’t know I would become a gospel musician.”
Though he loved music from an early age, Rodeck never imagined it would be gospel that captured his heart. That changed when he found his purpose and turned to God. Inspired by South African gospel heavyweight Dumi Mkokstad, Rodeck says his ultimate inspiration is God Himself.
His debut track Siyabonga, which means “Thank you” in IsiNdebele, is a soul-stirring anthem of gratitude that draws from his own life story. “The song is about telling God in gratitude for where I am today,” he said.
“One of the biggest challenges has been bringing people together to start a project like a single.”
“Money is needed for many purposes, such as studio time, recording and engineering.”
Despite the hurdles, Min Rodeck is already planning an album. “I’m excited about what lies ahead,” he said. “I want to spread the message of hope and gratitude through music.”
With Siyabonga now out, Min Rodeck is a man on a gospel mission with heavenly rewards.
