ZIMBABWE has recorded a decrease in overall road traffic accidents during the recent festive season, with 2,936 incidents reported between December 15, 2024, and January 15, 2025, compared to 3,607 in the previous season.

According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Thursday, the number of fatalities dropped slightly from 162 in the 2023-2024 period to 155 in 2024-2025.

However, fatal road accidents increased from 118 to 133 during the same period.

“The statistics show that while the total number of road traffic accidents declined, fatal crashes rose, and the number of people injured increased from 821 to 938,” reads the statement.

Despite the increase in fatal accidents, the ZRP noted that no major road disasters were recorded during the period.
