A 36-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been fined US$400 and banned from driving for six months after hitting a pedestrian who later died from injuries sustained in the incident.

Bhekinkosi Emmanuel Ndlovu of Nketa 7 suburb was found guilty of culpable homicide by Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

He was fined US$400, and in default he will serve 12 months in prison.

The fine is payable on or before February 20. In addition, the accused was prohibited from driving all motor vehicles for six months and was ordered to submit his driver’s licence to the court within seven days.

Prosecutor Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the offence occurred on December 7 at around 1AM.

On that date, the accused was driving a Mercedes Benz registration number ACK 2270 along Goderich Road due north, with four passengers on board.

The court heard that upon reaching a point opposite a stand in Donnington West, the accused person hit a pedestrian, Mr Theode Nyasha Maenzanise, who was crossing the road.

As a result, Maenzanise sustained serious multiple injuries all over his body and was ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital by an ambulance, said Mr Dzimbanhete.

On the same day, at around 8AM, Maenzanise passed on.
