THE National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (Ndaz) says it is happy to be nominated in three categories for the 2014 Annual National Sports Awards last week.
Ndaz, under the leadership of Harare banker Meynard Moyo, is one of the three nominees in the Sports Development of the Year category with the Zimbabwe bowls team and Zimbabwe Karate Union.
In the Coach of the Year, Ndaz vice chairperson, Mtonzima Dlamini is a nominee alongside Martin Dzuwa (tennis) and golfer Phillip Tshuma (Zimbabwe Junior Golf coach).
The third catergoy is the Team of the Year where their women’s national team was selected alongside the Davies Cup team and the Junior Golf Team.
“Being nominated in three categories is no mean achievement given the status of our game in comparison with the so called big sports. As the president of darts I feel humbled by the recognition we get from all sports stakeholders. I can humbly say the judges did their job without any favour. They were very professional and were not swayed by the popularity of the sport but took all sports disciplines as equal and judged according to their capabilities and achievements,” said Moyo.
Moyo’s leadership has seen the number of provinces playing darts increase from five to nine, with Matabeleland North being the only province without an active league.
