NOTICE OF EVICTION FROM COUNCIL RENTED AND LEASED PROPERTIES

THE City of Harare wishes to inform all tenants leasing Council Properties that the 14-day notice period for debt settlement has since expired.

Consequently, the City is initiating legal action to recover outstanding debts from those who have failed or refused to settle their accounts.

Effective July 1, 2025, the City of Harare will commence eviction proceedings against all defaulting tenants.

This has become a necessary step to recover critical funds. These funds are essential for service delivery and the financing of vital infrastructure maintenance and development.

The eviction process will include the recovery of rental arrears and holding over damages, alongside the repossession of the Council Property. Repossessed properties will subsequently be reallocated to eligible applicants currently on the waiting list.

The City also advises all tenants with paid-up accounts to visit their nearest District Office to reconcile their records and regularize their tenancy, especially if they do not possess valid lease agreements. Tenants wishing to negotiate a payment plan are also encouraged to visit their respective district offices.

We urge all residents to cooperate with the City of Harare by fulfilling their financial obligations and initiating the regularisation of their occupation where required. This proactive approach will help avoid the inconveniences that may arise from the actions being undertaken.
