VILLAGERS in Nyanga South have hailed their National Assembly Member, Cde Supa Mandiwanzira, for facilitating the Rotary Medicare Mission programme, which saw operating patients at Nyanga District Hospital over the past week.Some of the beneficiaries had acute ailments that had been troubling them for decades.
Cde Mandiwanzira came up with the initiative to bring the Indian doctors at a Rotary Club regional meeting held at Troutbeck Hotel where he was invited as the guest of honour.
He then told the Rotarians that besides the beautiful resort they were enjoying the people in the community were in dire need of medical help and they were welcome to help with treatment.
This resulted in the 10-day Rotary Medicare Project visit to Zimbabwe.
Masamare Tsvabasi (77) from Tanda who had been troubled with a large lipoma (lump) since 1973 on the back was ecstatic for the assistance after being successfully operated.
She said she had tried everything from traditional remedies to local clinics but had no money to go to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where she had been referred.
“I can’t believe this. I had lost hope at this old age and I thank the MP for remembering us in a special way. I had not seen this in my lifetime,” she said.
Raymond Samanyanga from Samungure village who had a growth on the right thigh could not hide his joy after undergoing a successful operation to mark the end of a three year gruelling pain.
“It’s so amazing that we can get such help in our own backyard.
“To Honourable Mandiwanzira I say we are pleased by this gesture and may you continue helping the disadvantaged members of the society,” said Raymond.
Cde Mandiwanzira said they were planning to make it an annual event so that more people get help.
“We are going to nicely talk to the doctors so that they come back again. Many people are now aware that this is a reality and will obliviously wait for the next chance with a baited breath,” he said.
