HILLSIDE Golf Club chairman, Martin Nyaundi, scooped the first prize at the African Distillers Limited Hillside Golf Day held last Friday.

Piniel Simbanegavi and Tamuka Macheka were the runners-up respectively in the individual stableford tournament.

A total of 48 local golfers took part in the golf day annually sponsored by Afdis since 1990 as part of its corporate social responsibility at the golf club.

Afdis marketing, sales and distribution director, Albert Chitapi, said the annual golf day would continue because the company placed value in its community and stakeholders.

“Afdis has been sponsoring this golf day since 1990. This is part of our corporate social responsibility activities that we wish to maintain year in year out.

“Our existence as a company is because of the community we serve, so we place value in our community and stakeholders,” said Chitapi.

Nyaundi, who is ironically also the company’s eastern regional manager, said the golf day was meant to promote golf and help keep the sport alive in the country.

“The golf day allows professionals, amateurs and learners the opportunity to network and mingle.

“At the same time it gives us (Afdis) an opportunity to showcase our products to different stakeholders,” said Nyaundi.

Nyaundi, however, pledged to donate his Afdis hamper to the club.

All the top eight winners walked away with Afdis hampers with all the companies’ brand products from wine, ciders and spirits.

Hillside Golf Club captain, Andrew Halloway, thanked Afdis for its continued support over the years.

He said such corporate support was the heart of survival of the club and the sport itself.
