Old Mutual Funeral Services expands into Midlands

Sunday News Reporter

Old Mutual Funeral Services has expanded its national network with the launch of a new parlour in Gweru, strengthening its presence in one of Zimbabwe’s most strategically located cities and extending its integrated funeral services offering into the Midlands Province.

The new facility joins the company’s existing operations across eight locations in Zimbabwe including Bulawayo (Phelandaba), Bulawayo (George Silundika), Harare, Chiredzi, Mutare, Masvingo, and Karoi, with Gweru now becoming the eighth location. This expansion reflects the company’s continued investment in infrastructure that enables families to access professional funeral support within their own communities.

As a major commercial and transport centre situated at the crossroads of Zimbabwe’s key economic corridors, Gweru serves a significant urban and rural population across the Midlands. The city’s central location makes it an important service hub, allowing Old Mutual Funeral Services to support families from across the province and neighbouring areas more efficiently.

Speaking at the launch, Old Mutual Life Assurance Company Managing Director, Rutendo Magorimbo, said the investment aligns with the company’s vision of building a nationwide funeral services network that responds to evolving customer needs.

“Gweru is an important centre for both business and community life in Zimbabwe. Establishing a presence here strengthens our ability to serve families across the Midlands while delivering the quality, dignity and professionalism that customers expect from the Old Mutual brand.”

Old Mutual Funeral Services was established in response to customer demand for practical funeral support that complements the financial protection offered through the Old Mutual Flexi Funeral Plan. The business now provides a comprehensive solution that combines funeral cover with funeral administration, logistical support and burial-related services.

Services available through the Gweru branch include collection and transportation of the deceased, funeral parlour facilities, repatriation services, water bowsers, family courtesy vehicles and nationwide bus services. These offerings are designed to help families navigate the operational and logistical demands that often accompany bereavement.

The Gweru investment also contributes to local economic development through employment opportunities and engagement with local suppliers, reinforcing Old Mutual’s broader commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates.

The launch marks another step in Old Mutual Funeral Services’ long-term strategy to establish a national network capable of delivering trusted funeral solutions to families across Zimbabwe.
