RISING Afro-fusion crooner, Sebastian “Sobs” Mubururi, says only a few local musicians are enjoying payments from YouTube for their work which is on that platform.

Sobs is basking in the glory of a number of successful live performances over the past few months.

Hailing from Dzivaresekwa, Sobs has been itching for recognition to take his music regionally.

Sobs added:

“Long back, the music industry made money from record labels but now that streaming is the main way that many of us consume music, there’s even less money left for musicians.

Kuisa pa YouTube, it’s just marketing ourselves so that people will know we have something new.

“Only a few Zimbabwean musicians are enjoying the YouTube money.”

He said he hopes to flood the market with his music.

“I aim to reach the regional market shortly while going international is the bigger dream.

“For the past months, it has been quite an exciting and eye-opening experience for me.

“The crowds have  been very responsive, so I loved interacting with them.

“For me, it is big because that is how we also make money as it has been a struggle to sell our music and get any revenue,” he said
