PHOTO OF OUR DREAMS

CLOSE your eyes, make a wish and imagine this party photograph tomorrow evening in Uganda.

That’s the stuff of dreams, isn’t it?

It means the Sables would have beaten Namibia tomorrow and won the ticket to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

It means the Sables would have ended 36 years of waiting to return to the grand festival of World Rugby.

The last time the Sables were at the World Cup was in 1991.

I was just 21 and now I’m 55.

It’s the year Antoine Griezmann, N’Golo Kante, George Chigova, Riyad Mahrez, Eden Hazard, Travis Scott, Ed Sheeran, Da Baby and Young Thug were born.

It’s a long, long time ago.

There was a time when the Sables appeared to be hopeless, and helpless, a World Cup appearance seemed like a trip to Mars.

But, somehow, they have been rejuvenated and they resemble a team which can play at the World Cup.

Now, all that they need is to beat Namibia in the final tomorrow and the deal would have been DONE.

“Everyone is happy,” said Tinotenda Mavesere.

“This is an opportunity for us and it’s on the table for us and it’s up to us to utilise it.

“So everyone, all week, we were preparing, everyone is focused and we are looking forward to playing Namibia.”

And then he said something very important.

“Everyone in the team believes in God and Him being at the centre of all this.

“It motivates us seeing all the people coming together, all the people happy, we are happy that we are uplifting our country.

“I know on Saturday many people are going to watch parties to see us play. We appreciate it so much and we are looking forward to making them happy on Saturday.”

Close your eyes again and dream about this photo.

In the world of AI and all the stuff, we are allowed to dream and so we can just say the photo was taken tomorrow in Uganda.
