Pokello justifies $25k bride price

While she is busy fending off pregnancy rumours that have dogged her and Ghanaian beau Elikem for the past few months, former reality TV star and fashionista Pokello Nare has been forced to come out and defend her $25 000 bride price.

Pokello, who together with husband Elikem have vowed to avoid the media in both countries as much as they can, had to come to the defence of the money allegedly paid by Elikem after popular Ghanaian radio talk show host Deloris Frimpong Manso had questioned the legitimacy of the figure.

The host of the Delay Show on Ghanaas 91.9 FM also made some unsavoury remarks about Zimbabweas Zim dollar, in a post that was meant to taunt Elikem into an interview.

a?Elikem Kumordzi, people want to know, you said you spent 25,000 dollars on your marriage, the question is, is it US dollars or Zimbabwe dollars? Please come out and clarify, you cannot throw dust in our eyes.a?

a?Donat say because I asked this question so you will get angry and not come on my show, as for my show, you will come, I will interview you before we both die,a? the host of the Delay Show provokingly quizzed.

Pokello fired back on twitter on Monday, saying that although the figure was shocking to people in Ghana, it was not out of the ordinary in Zimbabwe.

She also clarified the currency issue that had been raised.

a?It (the amount) was in United States dollars. We use and take only the American dollar in Zimbabwe. Maybe itas a surprising amount in Ghana but here in Zim higher amounts than mine have been paid for bride price,a? she wrote.

Since her union to Elikem, the couple that hooked up on reality show Big Brother Africa have been the objects of much speculation, as the media and public zoom in on the lives of one of Africaas emerging power couples.
