NEW: Police impound over 7 000 unregistered vehicles

More than 7 012 unregistered vehicles have been impounded since the beginning of the year under an operation dubbed ‘No to Unregistered Motor Vehicles’.

In a statement on Thursday, police also said it was escalating the fight against illegal miners and machete gangs.

“The ZRP has intensified its operations against illegal activities in the country,” reads the statement.

“On May 12, 2021, 64 vehicles were impounded under operation ‘No to Unregistered Motor Vehicles’, bringing the number of impounds to 7 012 since January 2021.”

Meanwhile, 82 suspects were yesterday arrested under operation ‘Chikorokoza Ngachipere’, taking to 16 449 the number of people arrested since January.
