Police have named seven people who were killed in two road traffic accidents recorded over the weekend in Masvingo and Rusape.
In one of the accidents, a Nissan Serena with eight occupants veered off the road and overturned before landing on its side after the rear right tyre of the vehicle burst at around 7.25am on Saturday at the 60km peg along Roy-Chiredzi Road. Four people were killed and four others injured.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Musiso Mission Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi named the four identified by their next of kin as Siyano Nyamande (40) of Crowhill, Borrowdale in Harare, Priscilla Musembwa (64) of Biddulph Road, Cranborne, Harare, Memory Kwenda (40) of Dzivaresekwa, Harare and Epson Nyamande (45) of Crowhill, Borrowdale, Harare.
In the other fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 60km peg along Harare-Mutare Road, three people were killed while seven others were injured when a Toyota Hilux with two passengers on board collided head-on with another Toyota Hilux with eight passengers on board.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
One of the three victims was identified by their next of kin as Tendai Amon Chigweshe (52) of Neshena Village, Makoni.
The other two victims were Virginia Madekufamba, a female adult of Mundopa Village, Makoni and Clement Kadungure (53) of Kamba Village, Makoni.
