Two suspected robbers who hired a policeman to take them to Mhondoro and then went on to hijack his Toyota Raum have been arraigned before the courts.
Luckmore Tasaruka (26) and Tatenda Saidi (30) from Domboshava appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Fadzai Mthombeni charged with robbery.
They were denied bail and will return to court on October 30.
The State said on July 26, 2023 at around 6:30 pm, the duo hired the complainant’s vehicle, a silver Toyota Raum, for their Mhondoro trip.
Along the way, the duo asked the complainant (name not supplied) to stop the vehicle under the guise that they wanted to relieve themselves.
The court heard the two then used a rope to tie the complainant’s neck and placed a cloth in his mouth.
Tasaruka and Saidi searched the complainant and stole a wallet containing US$68, his driver’s license and national identity card.
One of them then got onto the driver’s seat and drove the vehicle with the complainant on board.
They later dumped the complainant along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
The complainant’s police uniform was in the stolen vehicle.
