ZIMBABWE Handball Federation will hold a regional Presidential Trophy Club Championship in Harare from October 24 to 26. The annual tournament is open to all senior handball clubs in the SADC region. In an interview, Premier Handball League fixtures secretary Allan Mandeya confirmed that league matches scheduled for the last weekend of October were suspended to pave way for preparations of the upcoming tournament.

“Clubs are preparing for the Presidential Trophy, so all league matches were suspended. Games will resume soon after the tournament.
“Manicaland will be represented by Hardshots and Mutare Teachers’ College. We are confident that Hardshots will leave a mark considering the ongoing preparations the team is doing.

“There are no injuries and all experienced players like Brian Gwenjere, Farai Mukundu, Maxwell Mukwana, Joseph Magamba and Emerson Magume are available and fit for the competition,” said Mandeya.

ZHF secretary general, Alphios Magiya, also confirmed that the tournament will be played by only male and female senior teams in the region.
“The tournament is for senior clubs only. We invite all clubs for this regional tournament to cap a successful 2014 handball season and promote sporting excellence among our clubs and clubs from the SADC region.

“Affiliation fees are pegged at $50 per team. The participating teams will have to look for their own food and accommodation for the whole period of stay and play. Other logistics and prizes will be confirmed to the clubs that will have confirmed participation.

“We are expecting two teams from Mozambique, one from Zambia and South Africa will be represented by a single team, but all will comprise both male and female players,” said Magiya.
