A BUDIRIRO Anglican Church priest lost cash, cellphones, laptop and groceries to armed robbers on Saturday.

Reverend Vincent Farirai Fenga, 42, is reported to have been attacked by 10 unidentified men.

The family, including his wife Cresencia Fenga and children, were ordered to lie down by the armed robbers who gained entrance to the place of worship, around midnight.

Their hands and legs were tied and the robbers got away with US$400 and their valuables.

Harare Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Julius Chakanza, confirmed the incident saying investigations have already started.

“Police are investigating an armed robbery case where a church priest lost valuables at church premises in Budiriro along Patrenda Way,” said Insp Chakanza.

“Circumstances were that the complainant was sleeping together with his wife when he heard an unusual sound outside the house.

“The complainant woke up and went outside to investigate and he noticed that there were about ten unknown men who were trying to break the kitchen door.

“He then rushed back into the house and he was chased by one of the accused persons who managed to catch up with him.

“One of the accused was armed with an unidentified pistol while the other accused were holding knobkerries and a shambock.

“They ordered the complainant and his family to lie on the floor and tied their hands and legs using belts.

“They ransacked the whole house and stole various groceries, two G-Tel cellphones, one Itel cellphone, HP Laptop and US$400 cash before fleeing the scene.

“The family members later managed to untie themselves and proceeded to ZRP Budiriro and lodged a police report,” said Insp Chakanza.

Two Methodist Church in Zimbabwe circuits were recently pounced upon by armed robbers who got away with US$21 000 and valuables in Highfield and Glen View.
