PROVINCIAL FINALS for the 2025 Old Mutual High Schools Quiz competition have been slated for June, while the grand finale has been pencilled in for July 4.
The annual contest is widely considered a catalyst for the development of the education sector in Zimbabwe.
The Old Mutual High Schools Quiz is run in partnership with The Book of African Records, a producer of Pan-African content.
Marist Brothers, which has won the last three competitions, will be the school to beat.
Preparations for the competition are underway.
A countrywide mobilisation programme is ongoing to ensure as many schools as possible participate in this year’s contest, with would-be participants being apprised of the rules of the competition and modalities.
Celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the competition will be held in late May, in conjunction with the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH).
Thereafter, the first set of provincial finals will be held in Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland East, Matabeleland South and Midlands on June 6.
Bulawayo, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West, Masvingo and Matabeleland North will hold their provincial finals on June 20.
Before the national final, learners participating in the competition will visit Old Mutual’s head office for a session on financial literacy.
That will be followed by a tour of the Liberation City.
The Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) is spearheading construction of the Liberation City, a 101-hectare development in Harare that incorporates the Museum of African Liberation, Heritage Village, Liberation Mall, an African-themed amusement park and an animal park.
Besides bragging rights that come with excelling in the High Schools Quiz, Old Mutual is also going to provide a range of prizes, which include solar packages, computer laboratories, cellphones, boreholes and water tanks, laptops and printers — all of which will directly benefit participating schools and learners.
