FEAR of jail time for an alleged rapist was too much and he passed out in the dock.
Ngqabutho Dube (27) from Gwerua��s Mambo suburb, appearing before Gweru regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire facing rape charges, was remanded to 27 March in absentia because he had been rushed to hospital.
He had pleaded not guilty to the crime.
Ita��s the Statea��s case that onA� 7 February around 5am, he allegedly called the complainant to his house to collect a parcel for her mother.
The accused then got in the house where he came out holding a plastic bag. While the complainant reached for the parcel, the accused grabbed her hand then dragged her into the house. The complainant screamed for help but he took a white vest and stuffed it into her mouth.
He went on to rape the complainant once. After the deed, the accused person is said to have walked away as the complainant took the opportunity to escape.
The matter came to light when the complainant told her friend about the rape who in turn advised her to tell her mother. Her mother then reported the matter to the police.
