THE Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has reported significant progress in the country’s transport infrastructure development programme, with major road, rail and aviation projects either completed or nearing completion.

Speaking during the ninth Public Entities Corporate Governance Oversight Meeting in Bulawayo, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said the transport sector remains central to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation and Vision 2030 aspirations.

The Minister said the Government had recorded notable achievements in road infrastructure development during the first half of 2026, including the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road rehabilitation project and substantial progress on the Harare-Beitbridge Highway Upgrade.

He said the remaining section of the highway is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Among the projects highlighted were the Mucheke and Manyame bridges, the Airport Road upgrade, the Mabvuku Interchange and the Cloverleaf Interchange projects, as well as preparations for the Forbes, Chirundu and Nyamapanda border modernisation projects.

Minister Mhona said Government was also reviving road maintenance units across all provinces while upgrading tollgates into toll plazas to curb revenue leakages and improve service delivery.

“The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) continues to face operational and financial challenges, but efforts are underway to recapitalise the entity through strategic partnerships and investment mobilisation,” said Minister Mhona.

Minister Mhona said Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana were advancing regional rail projects, including the Kafue-Lion’s Den and Techobanine railway initiatives aimed at improving regional connectivity and trade
