Road accidents claim two, injure three

ONE person was killed and three others seriously injured when a Honda Fit they were travelling in overturned after veering off the road on the Mutasa-London Stores stretch.

The incident, which occurred on June 1 at around 4:30pm, claimed the life of Susan Maisera (54), while Steward Maura (43) and John Maisera (59) were left fighting for their lives in hospital with serious injuries.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the Honda Fit, driven by Vitalis Muderedzwa, crashed after losing control due to excessive speeding at the 3km mark along the Mutasa-London Stores road, approaching the Bonda area, with three passengers on board.

“The vehicle veered off the road to the right, overturning multiple times before landing on its wheels in a river,” he said.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Susan Maisera died on the spot from severe head injuries.

 

The driver and two other passengers were admitted to Bonda Mission Hospital.

 

The accident was reported at ZRP Nyanga Traffic.

Meanwhile, another tragic accident occurred along the Rusape-Tsanzaguru road on the same day around 3pm, claiming the life of 12-year-old Beyonce Chibhadhura.

 

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said the incident happened when Julius Katuruza (49), was driving towards Rusape, and hit the young pedestrian crossing the road near the 15km peg.

“Katuruza was driving towards Rusape and upon reaching the 15km peg at Masimbi Bus stop, he hit a young female pedestrian, who was crossing the road. The young juvenile sustained head injuries and bruises all over the body, and died upon admission at Rusape General Hospital,” he said.

Katuruza reportedly rushed the girl to hospital and later reported the case to the ZRP Rusape traffic, who attended the scene.

Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka urged to drivers to exercise caution on the roads by obeying traffic laws and avoiding excessive speed.

“We urge drivers to always check for pedestrians when reaching bus stops and to stop speeding. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.
