A ZAOGA Church in Vengere high-density suburb of Rusape was robbed of $1 200 by five robbers last Friday. Police confirmed the robbery and said Garikai Mukoyi (32), a security guard at ZAOGA Church in Vengere, Rusape, was on duty when five robbers struck at the church. It is alleged that Mukoyi was indoors with Joseph Muwi, who had slept in the church after a prayer session.
“Mukoyi was in the church together with Muwi. He went outside to check what was taking place after they heard voices. As soon as he opened the door, he was hit by an iron bar on the head and fell down. He was tied by a shoelace.
“Muwi, who witnessed the attack, was also hit on the right knee with an iron bar. He was also tied with a shoelace.
“The five robbers broke into the general secretary’s office and grabbed a safe which contained $1 261. The five left in a car whose model and registration number was unidentified, said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri.
He added: “All public institutions should bank large sums of money.
“If they keep it in their offices they will become vulnerable to such acts of robbery especially this time of the year when we are approaching the festive season. During this time of the year people are looking for money to spend.”
Meanwhile, an act of good faith to give directions to four men by a Conrucopia Extension Farm security guard in Rusape backfired after he was stabbed and robbed of his gun last Friday.
Munyaradzi Muchezera (29), a security guard at Conrucopia Farm in Rusape, was on patrol last Friday night at around 10pm when he was approached by four men pretending to have lost their way to a nearby farm.
Muchezera, who was armed with a gun and in the company of his wife, Nyarai Mavheneke, assisted the men with directions to Slydon Farm.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the incident.
“Muchezera was on night-watch duty at Conrucopia Farm in Rusape in the company of his wife when they were approached by four men who wanted directions to Slydon Farm.
“In the process, he was stabbed four times in the abdomen by one of the four robbers. He was disarmed of the 12-bore shotgun he had.
“The firearm certificate was also taken. A police report was made,” said Insp Chishiri.
The 12-bore shotgun was written BSA, with the Serial Number YA 107304.
Muchezera was taken to Rusape General Hospital where his condition is reported to be stable.
Insp Chishiri said: “The firearm is now in the wrong hands and the public should be vigilant since this can be a threat to public security.
“Anyone who has information leading to the identification of the four at large should report to the nearest police station.”
