WARRIORS striker Prince Dube’s exploits in the field of play continue to be a marvel and a source of inspiration to many in Inyathi, Bubi District in Matabeleland North.

With this ever-increasing admiration, the community of Inyathi have vowed to produce more promising talent as they gear up for the finals of the annual Royal Cup, where Dube made his mark while playing for Shooting Stars some years ago.

At the time Dube made rave reviews in the dusty red soils of Inyathi during the Royal Cup, he was under the tutelage of coach, Edmos Ncube.

As per tradition, this year’s finals will be played at Badala Business Centre Grounds.
Eight teams are vying for the silverware and these include Young Stars FC, Black Swallows FC, Inyathi Pirates FC, Inyathi Hospital FC, Shooting Stars FC, Bafana Bafana FC, Mahlabathini FC and Indumba United.

Defending champions Inyathi Hospital who beat Inyathi Pirates 2-0, have a massive task ahead, if they are serious about keeping the trophy in their cabinet for a second year in a row. The contest promises to be a tough one this time around.

The organisers said their prime aim is to help young people explore and show their talents.
“Our aim is to help these youngsters realise their potential in sport. There is a lot of talent in Bubi and we are proud to have produced the Warriors striker, Prince Dube. We want to produce more of such talent through the Royal Cup,” said the organisers in a statement.

The tournament has been a regular feature since 2014 on New Year’s Day, with the only time it did not take place being at the beginning of 2021 at the height of Covid-19.

It is the brainchild of football benefactors, South Africa-based businessman Khumbulani Moyo and his brother, Mphilisi.

Khumbulani is the director of Royal People Investments, which runs a farming venture in Inyathi while Mphilisi operates a cross-border transport business between Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Mphilisi said they want to help change the notion that football talent is only found in the city.
“As we progress with this tournament, we have a long term vision of building a team that will eventually play in the Division One League and ultimately in the Premiership.

“We call upon all football lovers in Inyathi and other places close by to come and witness a display of rare talent from rural areas. Gone are the days when players were picked from the western suburbs of Bulawayo.

“Now is our time. It is the young people’s time to shine and show the world that football talent exists in Bubi District. To the parents, we say, please let your children explore the world and play football. On our part as sponsors, we will remain true to our promise and support in whatever form we can,” he said.
Participating teams are guaranteed to receive prizes in the form of cash, kit, balls and individual accolades.
