Six years for sodomising friend

He was in town looking for a job.
He left his friend with a sexually transmitted infection.
Desmond Masawu pleaded not guilty to aggravated indecent assault charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Esthere Chivasa.
He was, however, convicted due to overwhelming evidence against him.
Masawu was sentenced to nine years in prison and three years were set aside for the next five years.
In passing sentence, Ms Chivasa said the complainant suffered psychological trauma after the abuse.
“He was also exposed to a sexually transmitted infection on the anal region and this is what aggravated the offence,” she said.
Prosecutor Ms Sarah Bosha told the court that Masawu who hails from the same rural areas with his friend, approached him in October last year with a request for him to keep his property.
He told his friend that he had secured a job outside Harare and his friend agreed to keep the property.
Masawu moved in with his friend following his failure to go where he had secured a job.
Masawu told his friend that he was waiting for his employer to call him.
On October 26 the same year, Masawu came back to his friend’s place drunk and sneaked into his blankets.
He forcibly removed his friend’s pyjamas and the two started scuffling.
Masawu overpowered his friend and sodomised him.
He threatened him against making a police report.
After nine months of living in fear, Masawu’s victim finally reported the matter to police on July 21 this year.
