Government has commended small-scale and artisanal miners for their role in infrastructure development, echoing President Mnangagwa’s mantra, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo.”
The recognition follows the establishment of a state-of-the-art orphanage by the Zanu PF-affiliated group, Miners4ED in Alabama, Sanyati District.
Presently, the centre is undergoing minor renovations before its official launch.
The facility is expected to provide sanctuary for at least 80 orphans, offering academic and vocational education.
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo, along with Zanu PF Politburo member Cde Paul Mangwana, toured the site last Saturday after attending a national chairman’s conference held at the facility, which gathered provincial and national members from all the provinces.
In her address, Minister Chombo celebrated the miners’ involvement in infrastructure development.
“This is admirable and President Mnangagwa takes pride in his children who give back to the communities they serve.Continue this excellent work, complementing the Government’s efforts, as this signifies that achieving Vision 2030 is within reach,” she said.
Beyond the orphanage, Miners4ED has made strides in drilling and installing solar-powered boreholes, constructing classroom blocks and rehabilitating roads across the nation.
Minister Chombo also recognised the group for its support of vulnerable people, including those with disabilities.
“The affiliate has actively helped vulnerable children with uniforms and scholarships, and has provided wheelchairs for those in need,” she said.
Miners4ED provincial leader Cde Moses Mupeiwa said the orphanage will provide refuge for children left without parents due to mine accidents and HIV/AIDS-related deaths.
“We are committed to giving back to the community that has supported us, thanks to the encouraging environment created by the Second Republic.
“This facility is our expression of gratitude to President Mnangagwa,” he said.
With a vision to equip children with lifelong skills, the affiliate has sought additional land to initiate income-generating projects that will sustain the home and empower beneficiaries.
Upcoming initiatives include broiler chicken farming, fish farming, horticulture, carpentry, dressmaking, and welding.
Cde Coussie Mcleame Anashe, the affiliate’s national chief executive officer, promised to deliver at least 900 000 registered voters to Zanu PF in the next election.
“Our goal is to contribute a minimum of 100 votes from each branch, translating to an impressive 900 000 votes next year,” he said.
The affiliate is collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that small-scale and artisanal miners operate sustainably while significantly contributing to the nation’s economy.
