TRAINER Bridget Stidolph has been crowned the 2016-17 season horse-racing Zimbabwe champion trainer.
The Mashonaland Turf Club racing season’s curtain came down last weekend with the Commissioner General meet at Borrowdale.
Stidolph’s stable won the award, based on stakes won by the yard, after they earned a total of $330 668, from 53 individual runners.
The yard recorded a 13 percent margin and 51 percent in places with Kirk Swanson stable coming as the runner-up with $312 552.
Swanson had 39 individual runners who had 16 percent winning rate and 60 percent in places. Penny Fisher, who amassed $175 907 off 23 individual runners, was third.
Amy Bronkhorst was fourth on $166 404 from 17 individual runners. The honours in the jockey championship went to Fanie Chambers, who is a regular jockey for the Stidolph yard.
Apprentice jockey Calvin Habib, who also rides for the Stidolph stable, was crowned the champion apprentice. The Mashonaland Trainers and Owners said everyone deserved credit.
‘’All the Zimbabwe trainers deserve credit for pulling their weight in what has been a difficult year. The owners and the MTC deserve a pat on the back also,’’ they said.
