26-year-old woman from Lower Gweru died after she was severely assaulted with a log by her husband in a suspected case of adultery

Acting Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Mollidias Zivuku confirmed the matter.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of murder in which a 26-year-old woman died after she was assaulted by her husband with a wooden log. The incident occurred on 26 May at around 9pm at Chizhanga Village, Sandwich Farm, Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru,” she said.

Asst Insp Zivuku identified the deceased as Paidaishe Moyo of Chizhanga Village, Sandwich Farm, Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru, and her husband as Khulekani Phiri, 32.
Phiri, she said, has since been arrested in connection with the case.

“It is alleged that on 25 May at around 3am, the suspect returned home from his workplace and saw Paidaishe Moyo accompanying a man, only known as Mthandazo, out of their yard. Khulekani Phiri suspected that the two were having an affair,” she said.
The following day at around 9pm, while Phiri and Moyo were in their bedroom, the suspect continued to question her about Mthandazo’s visit.

“The deceased’s response did not satisfy the suspect, who then took a wooden log and hit Paidaishe several times all over her body, causing her to lose consciousness,” she said.
Asst Insp Zivuku said Phiri went to his nephew and lied that his wife was unwell.
She said upon arrival at the suspect’s house, the nephew discovered that Moyo was already dead.

“A police report was made at ZRP Maboleni and officers observed that the deceased was bleeding from a cut on the head and left ear, as well as cuts on both legs and several bruises all over her body. Investigations were carried out, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” she said.

Asst Insp Zivuku said Phiri is expected to appear in court facing the serious charge of murder once investigations are complete.
“We urge members of the public to desist from resorting to violence in order to avoid unnecessary loss of life,” she said.
