A SUSPECTED cellphone thief was arrested after he fell into a septic tank following a chase.

The incident happened in Southlea Park on Sunday evening.

Mai Tanya, the phone’s owner, said the suspect, identified as Moses, grabbed her device at approximately 7 pm.

“I was walking home when he snatched my phone and ran,” Mai Tanya said.

“I shouted ‘thief’ and ran after him, throwing stones.”

An eyewitness, identified only as Lovemore, said he pursued Moses on his bicycle.

“Moses threw some stones at me but I continued chasing him,” Lovemore said.

“He lost his footing and fell into the septic tank.”

Moses denied the allegations, claiming his innocence, but later drew the two Samsung smartphones from the septic tank.

The incident has sparked concerns about safety in the area.

A resident Trish Mupararutsa noted:

“There have been multiple attacks by thieves in Southlea Park.

“We are now afraid to move around after 7 pm.”
