A TAXI driver was robbed of his vehicle by his client around midnight on October 31 after he had driven him to Murambi. Eric Mhakayakora (34) parked his car at Victory House waiting for clients.
An unknown man approached him and asked to be driven to Murambi. He was charged $3 but only paid $2 and said he was going to pay the balance when he reached his home. When they reached Hillside the client ordered Mhakayakora to stop and said he was coming back with the dollar but disappeared in the dark. Mhakayakora remained in the taxi waiting for the man to come back but he delayed to return and he switched off his vehicle and disembarked leaving the keys in the ignition switch to follow his client in the dark. The client emerged from the dark running towards the taxi. He switched on the engine and drove off quickly leaving Mhakayakora stranded. He reported the case at Mutare central police station. His vehicle is a beige Toyota Raum with registration numbers ACE 0013.
Meanwhile, another man lost his Toyota Hiace, registration number AAS 3266, vehicle to robbers on the same day in the central business district through what is suspected to be hot wiring.
Allen Mtasa (25) parked his Toyota Hiace opposite 37 Tembo Street around 3:30pm and left it unattended.
When he returned his vehicle was not there. He had his keys on him and he went on to report the case at Mutare Central two days later.
