adminA Manicaland teacher allegedly raped a 17 year old child parliamentarian has been arrested and appeared in court facing rape charges.
Amon Chiwocha (35) who is ZANU-PF’s Secretary for Education in the province and a teacher at Eastern Highlands Number 6 Primary School appeared before Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Livingstone Chipadze, who did not ask him to plead and postponed his case December 17, 2014 for trial.
Rusape Area prosecutor, Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira, appeared for the State and told the court that Chiwocha raped the Form 3 girl in a hotel room in Rusape and threatened her with removal from her post if she ever disclosed the incident.
“On 8 April 2014 around 1600hrs Chiwocha, the complainant and other people left Hauna Growth Point on a commuter omnibus.
They were going to attend the belated 21st February Movement Celebrations at Matsika Business Centre in Rusape. On the commuter omnibus the accused was seated next to the complainant.
During the journey the accused stretched his hand pretending to open the window whilst his arm brushed the child’s breasts,’’ said Mr Mutyasira.
Chiwocha and his delegation arrived at the venue around 9pm but were told that they had to spend the night at Manica Hotel in Rusape town. At Manica Hotel Chiwocha paid for accommodation for everyone. The receptionists put the room keys on the table and the delegation picked up their keys.
Before the complainant could pick up hers, Chiwocha snatched the girl’s keys and both proceeded to her room.
“Chiwocha unlocked complainant’s room and went away with the keys.
The complainant later fell asleep, leaving lights and television in the room on.
At 0100hrs the Chiwocha sneaked into complainant’s room and put the lights out.
The girl identified the accused by the television light. Chiwocha said to the complainant: “Nhasi ndazokubata mufanha wainyanya kuvhaira” (I got you this time, you thought you were too smart).The girl tried to leave the room but the accused held onto her hand. A scuffle ensued and Chiwocha overpowered the girl and proceeded to rape her once.
The accused person threatened to remove the complainant from her post as a Child Parliamentarian using his position if she disclosed the incident to anyone.T
he matter came to light on 28 October 2014 when the complainant was referred to Chisuko Clinic by her school authorities after they suspected that she had been sexually abused by her boyfriend in Harare.
The girl revealed the rape incident to Marble Mafunga a nurse at Chisuko Clinic and she was referred to Hauna District Hospital for medical examinations.
