A 19-YEAR-OLD Chipinge man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after he tried to kill a vendor in a fight over goat meat.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Spencer Khosa flew into a rage on 12 August 2025 when a 44-year-old vendor at Busy Corner Bottle Store in Chisumbanje Township told him each piece of cooked goat meat cost R3.
“When the victim told him not to waste his time if he had no money, the offender became enraged,” said the NPAZ. Khosa grabbed the man by the collar, shoved him to the ground, then stormed into the bottle store. Moments later he returned wielding a machete and struck the victim on the neck and palm, leaving him with deep wounds.
Khosa pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to nine years in prison, with four years suspended, leaving him to serve an effective five years.
The NPAZ said: “Violent behaviour over petty disputes has no place in our communities. This ruling sends a clear message that the justice system will act firmly against those who resort to violence. Disagreements must never be settled with weapons.”
