IN a heartbreaking incident, two young boys from Mashayani Compound in Tingamira Estate, under Chief Mutema in Chipinge, drowned in Chipita Dam on Monday.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka identified the victims as Christopher Maweni (13) and Christoper Zvinei (11).
The two were last seen leaving home on March 29, 2025 to herd cattle in the nearby grazing land.
“It is alleged that both individuals left home on March 29, 2025, and went to herd cattle at the grazing land. They did not return home, and their parents did not bother to search for them, thinking they might have gone somewhere else,” he said.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said incident came to light, when the bodies of the two boys were discovered floating in the dam the following morning around 7am by Learnard Ndumeya (17), while on his way to school.
Ndumeya immediately informed Andrew Gabriel Mtetwa (65), of Plot 15, Vermont B Village, who then reported the incident to Chipinge Rural Police.
Police attended the scene and retrieved the bodies, which had no visible injuries. The bodies were taken to Chipinge District Hospital for post-mortem.
