WAR veterans in Chipinge on Sunday demonstrated against Zanu-PF provincial secretary for lands, Cde Simon Mapamba and Central Committee member, Cde Betty Waini, accusing them of stifling the reunification of Zanu-PF and Ndonga as well as fanning factionalism in the district.
The demonstration happened at Chibuwe Primary School when the Zanu-PF leadership was locked in a meeting held at the school administration block. The demonstrators demanded the ejection of the duo from the meeting.
The war veterans led by Cde Simango argued that Cdes Mapamba and Waini were in the fore-front of throwing spanners in the reunification process.
Cde Simango said: “As war veterans we are unhappy by the inclusion of Cdes Mapamba and Waini in this meeting because they were fighting tooth and nail to render the reunification process a failure.
“We have realised that Cdes Waini and Mapamba were dividing the party during the talks between Zanu-PF and Ndonga and therefore they should not be part of this historic celebration,” he said.
The noise by the demonstrators became so loud prompting the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Mandi Chimene to temporarily adjourn the briefing meeting to attend to the demonstrators.
Cde Chimene promised to institute investigations into the matter.
“I have heard your concerns and I will look into the matter and feedback will be availed to you as soon as possible.
“I would like to warn members who divide the party along factional lines that the party will not hesitate to expel them,” she said.
Cde Chimene’s address quelled the demonstrations and the briefing meeting continued.
Moments later Cdes Waini and Mapemba were seen leaving the meeting and did not attend the main function.
