Ways to elevate your home’s appeal

WHILE driving along Chiremba Road in Chadcombe, Harare, recently, my attention was suddenly caught by a remarkable home.

As I later learnt, Farai Chikombo has been maintaining this property, which belongs to the Utete family, for the past seven years.

Their garden is a testament to their passion for excellence and commitment to preserving their property’s value.

The strategic placement of high-value plants, including palms, cycads and shade trees, has transformed the property’s appearance and significantly increased its worth.

To further enhance the value of your garden, consider incorporating additional features such as fishponds, waterfalls, pergolas, arches, garden furniture and lighting. Beyond aesthetic appeal, certain trees can reduce your cooling costs by up to 40 percent.

A well-maintained garden is more valuable than an untidy one, so the time and effort you invest are crucial.  Keeping your garden clean, tidy and free of debris is essential for maintaining its value.

Landscaping can also enhance privacy. Hedges or pergolas can create a barrier between your property and passers-by,
making it more appealing to potential buyers.

Valuable properties often include well-designed entertainment areas to provide comfortable spaces for relaxation. Prioritising security is essential as potential buyers want to feel safe in their new home.

Adding a garden room can significantly increase your property’s value by providing a separate workspace.  Slopes can add visual interest and create unique features in your garden.  Lawns are a classic element that can enhance the landscape and increase property value.

This is particularly so when expansive lawns are incorporated.
