LAST Saturday night, Mutare witnessed a record-breaking crowd of thousands packed at the Manicaland Showgrounds for an unforgettable night of live performances.

The event featured a diverse lineup of renowned and emerging artistes, showcasing a wide range of genres and creating an electric atmosphere that left the crowd buzzing with excitement.

The unforgettable night will be etched in the memories of all the attendees.

By 3pm, a staggering 25 000 tickets had been sold, with an additional 5 000 attendees believed to have gained free entry thereafter.

This unprecedented crowd was a testament to the event’s massive appeal.

The lineup of talented artistes, including Winky D, Freeman, Chillmaster, King Shaddy, Dorcas Moyo, and Andy Muridzo delivered electrifying performances that left the crowd enthralled throughout the night.

Winky D’s signature energy was on full display as he blended his unique dancehall style with infectious beats, prompting fans to chant along to every lyric.

Freeman’s performance was a thrilling fusion of high-energy tracks and crowd interaction, with his catchy hooks and powerful stage presence drawing thunderous cheers.

Chillmaster’s smooth rhythms and laid-back vibe maintained a vibrant atmosphere, while King Shaddy’s infectious energy had everyone grooving to his mix of classic hits and fresh tunes.

Andy Muridzo’s soulful set seamlessly blended emotion and rhythm, resonating deeply with the crowd as he performed his fan-favourite hits, leaving a lasting impression with his captivating stage presence.

Each artiste brought their unique flair to the stage, culminating in an unforgettable musical experience that will be etched in the memories of all who attended.

Winky D’s latest release— Siya— stole the show, while Freeman and Chillmaster’s hits — Ibhiza and Horror — captivated the audience.

However, comedian and aspiring artiste, Captain Britain’s stage debut was marred by controversy.
Instead of seizing the opportunity to impress, he sparked outrage by criticising fellow artistes, particularly Winky D, and claiming superiority.

The crowd swiftly turned against him, and he was booed off the stage.

In stark contrast, the event’s organisation was flawless.

SWAN exceeded expectations, ensuring every detail was meticulously executed.

The impressive stage setup, perfectly designed to showcase each performance, was complemented by expert lighting that added an extra layer of excitement.

Top-notch security provided a safe environment, while the crystal-clear PA system enhanced the music experience.

The event flowed seamlessly, with well-coordinated timing allowing each artiste to shine without delays.

The event commenced with thrilling soccer matches featuring Zim Musicians, Mutare Legends, Swan FC, and Diamond FM FC.

After Swan and Diamond FM were eliminated in the semi-finals, Zim Musicians clashed with Mutare Legends in the finals.

With notable players like Andy Muridzo, Shinsoman, and Trevor D, Zim Musicians emerged victorious.

However, the event’s success was somewhat marred by logistical challenges. Motorists faced significant difficulties finding parking space, navigating the showgrounds, and heading home as Magamba Road was heavily congested.

Some were forced to sleep in their cars, while others managed to depart around 6am.

On a more positive note, the event generated a significant economic boost for local tourism and accommodation providers.

Most facilities were fully booked from Friday to Sunday, driven by the influx of visitors.

The surge in demand, not only benefited local hotels, guesthouses, and other accommodation services, but also underscored Mutare’s growing appeal as a premier destination for major events.

Said the organisers after the event: “We would like to thank the people of Mutare for their overwhelming support.

“This event truly belonged to them. Without their energy and enthusiasm, it would not have been the same.

“They made the day unforgettable. The crowd was disciplined, and everything exceeded our expectations, making the event a great success.

“From the smooth flow of the performances to the vibrant atmosphere, every moment was filled with positive energy.

“We also appreciate the collaborative efforts of all the artistes, staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

“It was a true celebration of culture, music, and community, and we could not have asked for a better turnout or a more supportive audience.”
