IN an uncalled for attack, a Sakubva man assaulted his wife after he had asked him for R5 to buy vegetables.
For the offence, Taziva Hukuimwe was fined $100.
The court heard that Hukuimwe assaulted Nancy Nechavava after he had asked him for R5 to buy vegetables.
He plucked off his hair extensions during the assault and senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura had no kind words for a man who neglects his fatherly role.
In defence, Hukuimwe said he assaulted his wife out of rage.
“You should not run away from your fatherly responsibilities and hide behind anger.
“If you fail to pay $100 fine by the 24th of this month, I will send you to prison for thirty days,” said Mrs Chiundura.
In an unrelated matter, a Greenside low-density suburb man was fined $150 after he was caught with seven bales of second-hand clothes which he had smuggled into the country from Mozambique.
David Murenje (39) pleaded guilty to the charge and told the court that he was only trying to make ends meet as a family man.
Public Prosecutor, Mr Donald Mudadirwa, told the court that Murenje was ambushed by police at Christmas Pass
“The accused was caught on June 30 at around 9pm with second-hand clothes which had not been smuggled.
“Because his explanation was not convincing, he was arrested. Zimra lost a total of $840 because of his actions,” said Mr Mudadirwa.
Mrs Chiundura ordered Murenje to resort to lawful ways of making a living.
