ZIMBABWEAN wildlife warrior Dr Moreangels Mbizah has roared onto the world stage after scooping the prestigious 2025 Wayfinder Award from the National Geographic Society, one of the highest honours in global conservation.

Dr Mbizah, the brains behind Wildlife Conservation Action, was honoured for her groundbreaking work in promoting peaceful coexistence between humans and wild animals. Her fearless passion has not only protected Zimbabwe’s biodiversity but also uplifted communities living near game parks.

Speaking to Zimpapers, the soft-spoken eco-queen said:
“This award is not just for me. It’s a win for Zimbabwe, for every girl dreaming big, and for the animals we fight to protect every day.”

As one of the few black African women ever to land this international accolade, Dr Mbizah has made history, proving that Zim scientists belong on the world map.

Her conservation journey has taken her from bush camps to global stages. Working with heavyweights like WWF and Imire Rhino and Wildlife Conservation, she has built smart, community-driven models to stop animal-human conflict while boosting rural livelihoods.

The Wayfinder Award celebrates bold explorers who shape the future of the planet, and Dr Mbizah fits the bill. From tackling poaching to protecting endangered species, she has shown the world that Zimbabwe has the brains, heart and guts to lead the conservation fight.
“Young people must take the lead,” she urged. “We need to blend science, culture and community to protect our natural heritage.”

Take a bow, Doc. The wild is watching. And it’s proud.
