IN a murder case that has shocked the Tandi community in Makoni District, a 24-year-old woman drowned her niece in apparent revenge to an unknown dispute she was having with the child’s parents.Kumbirai Edith Shoriwa of Bwanya Village was arrested for allegedly murdering four-year-old Roseline Murimi.
Roseline’s father is a brother to Shoriwa’s husband.
Shoriwa, who is represented by Mr Maxwell Chiwanza of Chiwanza and Associates, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Rusape magistrate Mrs Petronella Hanzi.
She was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecuting, Ms Event Dhliwayo told the court that Shoriwa threw Roseline, who was alive, in Mudze River and went back home.
“The accused person lured Roseline Murimi to follow her. She used a bush and rocky route to the river. At the river, Shoriwa held Roseline’s right hand using her left hand and threw her in Mudze River.
“She then left her to die. The accused person made positive indications at the crime scene,” said Ms Dhliwayo.
