A HARARE woman is furious claiming that a US$1 divorce token she received from her husband is a humiliation to her and her family.
Valen Dakwa’s marriage with Flexman Chivangani collapsed after she was accused of having an extra-marital affair.
She was handed a US$1 divorce token.
Dakwa has dragged Chivangani to the Harare Civil Court claiming that her estranged husband is making her life miserable.
Dakwa told the court:
“Flexman accused me of cheating and he called my relatives to give me a token of divorce.
“This man humiliated me by giving me US$1 as a token of divorce in front of my relatives.
“He told me in my face that he never loved me and l was his worst mistake,” she said, sobbing.
She added:
“Flexman has been assaulting me every day ever since he gave me a token of divorce saying that l should vacate his house.
“He called me a prostitute, claimed that l infected him with STIs and he no longer wants to associate with me.
“I no longer have peace because of this man.
“He even insults my parents claiming they raised a prostitute. All l plead for is the court’s protection as l am being abused by Flexman.”
Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted her a protection order.
Chivangani did not deny the allegations.
“I gave her a token of divorce because of misunderstandings that have been going on since we got married.
“It’s better to separate than keep forcing things that are not working.
“The reason why l assault her is because of the heated arguments that she always creates.”
