A 43-year-old woman lost more than US$2000 dollars in a botched mining deal.
Portia Ruzvezve was allegedly duped by Peter Kativhu, 38, into believing that he owns a mine and needed someone to partner with.
Peter has been evading to meet Portia and is not picking her calls.
He lost US$2400.
Portia realized it later that Peter neither owned a mine nor was a holder of any mining license.
He used Portia money for other uses not pertaining to mining as per their agreement.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a fraud case in Epworth,” said Insp Chakanza.
“Circumstances are that sometime in January 2024, the accused person approached the complainant with documents purporting to be mining licenses.
“The accused person went on to invite the complainant to partner with him and promised her that she would get 30 percent from the profits realized after every processing of gold ore.
“The accused showed some pictures, in his cellphone, of his equipment and mining sites to lure the complainant in investing into the botched business.
“The accused then invited complainant to contribute by providing finances for food, diesel, explosive, fuses and other expenses that maybe needed.
“The Complainant gave the complainant money believing that she would get the profits as agreed,” said Insp Chakanza.
