A ZVIMBA woman landed in the dock after she allegedly unlawfully terminated her pregnancy and buried the foetus in a shallow grave.

Memory Mukwatira, 20, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate, Dennis Mangosi, who remanded her in custody to today pending bail ruling.

Allegations are that between July 9 and July 13, at Warwick Farm near Lake Chivero, Mukwatira unlawfully terminated her pregnancy.

She allegedly concealed her foetus by digging a shallow grave, a few metres from her house.

She allegedly became ill and was bleeding profusely, which prompted her neighbours to question what had happened.

She admitted that she had terminated her pregnancy and had buried the foetus nearby.

The court heard that investigations are still underway and a medical affidavit is yet to be obtained from her.

A DNA test is yet to be conducted to match her with the recovered foetus.

Polite Chikiwa appeared for the State.
